Summary
Section titled “Summary”Girls’ Basketball: Note: All standard basketball rules will be applied and enforced by the referees unless otherwise stated by the MIST Sports Directors. The following rules are specific to MIST and must be followed in addition to standard gameplay regulations.
1. General Conduct
Section titled “1. General Conduct”- All MIST rules and regulations, including the official dress code, are in full effect throughout the tournament.
- Each team MUST have players match in some way through what they wear. Some options include:
- Jersey with numbers
- The same-colored shirts.
- Players are expected to uphold the values and conduct standards of MIST at all times.
- Only one coach and assistant coach per team are permitted on the team bench.
2. Player Check-In & Eligibility
Section titled “2. Player Check-In & Eligibility”- All players must check in at the sports desk before their first game using their MyMIST app QR code.
- Upon check-in, players will receive a wristband that must be worn at all times during gameplay.
- No player is allowed to participate without a wristband.
- During substitutions, incoming players must clearly display their wristband before coming onto the court
3. Game Format & Overtime:
Section titled “3. Game Format & Overtime:”- Each preliminary game will consist of two 6-minute halves and 1- minute halftime.
- Each playoff game will consist of two 6-minute halves and a 1-minute halftime.
- If there is a tie, sudden death will be implemented, which is whoever scores the first basket (free-throws included).
4. Referee Authority
Section titled “4. Referee Authority”- Referees have full authority to enforce rules, make calls, and issue warnings or fouls as needed.
- Technical fouls and ejections may be given at the referee’s discretion for inappropriate conduct, unsportsmanlike behavior, or failure to follow rules.
- All decisions made by the referees during games are final.
5. Clock:
Section titled “5. Clock:”- The clock will run non-stop until the final two minutes of each half. During the last two minutes, the clock will stop on all whistles.
- An official or team time-out will stop the clock
6. Fouls:
Section titled “6. Fouls:”- Standard basketball fouls will be called and enforced by referees.
- No basket may be scored on a player control (offensive) foul, regardless of when the ball is released.
- Two technical fouls on a player or coach will result in automatic ejection from the game.
- The ejected player must also leave the playing area.
- Teams will enter the bonus (one and one) on the 7th team foul.
- On a team’s 10th foul, all fouls will result in two free throws.
- Any player fouled on a 3-point attempt who does not make the basket will be allowed to shoot three free throws.
- Slapping the backboard is not a technical foul in itself, but intentionally hitting the backboard hard enough to alter the flight of the ball will result in a technical foul.
7. Disciplinary Actions:
Section titled “7. Disciplinary Actions:”- Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.
- The following behaviors will result in a game suspension:
- Cursing at the officials, supervisors, or opposing players.
- Insulting the officials, supervisors, or opposing players.
- Participating in a fight - this will result in an immediate disqualification.
- Other unsportsmanlike acts will also earn a technical foul.
- All unsportsmanlike fouls will result in two free throws and possession of the ball, regardless of whether the foul is on a player or the bench.
8. Timeouts:
Section titled “8. Timeouts:”- Each team has two 30-second timeouts for each game.
9. Substitutions:
Section titled “9. Substitutions:”- Substitutes must be reported to the score table and beckoned in by the officials.
- Illegal substitutions will result in a technical foul.
