Boy’s Baseketball:

⚠️ Note: All standard basketball rules will be applied and enforced by the referees unless otherwise stated by the MIST Sports Directors. The following rules are specific to MIST and must be followed in addition to standard gameplay regulations.

  • All MIST rules and regulations, including the official dress code, are in full effect throughout the tournament.
  • Each team MUST have players match in some way through what they wear. Some options include:
    • Jersey with numbers
    • The same coloured shirts.
    • Colored pinnies jersey
  • Players are expected to uphold the values and conduct standards of MIST at all times.
  • Only one coach and assistant coach per team are permitted on the team bench.
  • All players must check in at the sports desk before their first game using their MyMIST app QR code.
  • Upon check-in, players will receive a wristband that must be worn at all times during gameplay.
  • No player is allowed to participate without a wristband.
  • During substitutions, incoming players must clearly display their wristbands before entering the court.
  • Referees have full authority to enforce rules, make calls, and issue warnings or fouls as needed.
  • Technical fouls and ejections may be given at the referee’s discretion for inappropriate conduct, unsportsmanlike behavior, or failure to follow rules.
  • All decisions made by the referees during games are final.
  • Each game will consist of two 8-minute halves and a 1- minute halftime.
  • If there is a tie, an extra minute will be added for overtime.
  • If there is still a tie after overtime, sudden death will be implemented, which is whoever scores the first basket (free-throws included).
  • The clock will run non-stop until the final two minutes of the second half of the game.
  • An official or team time-out will stop the clock
  • If fouled on a shooting shot, take out on the side until 2nd half of the last 2 minutes.
  • If they get fouled on a shot and make it whether it’s a 3-pointer or not they’ll get the points along with one free throw shot, but if fouled on shot and missed then take it out on the side.
  • No basket may be scored on a player control (offensive) foul, regardless of when the ball is released.
  • If a player gets 5 personal fouls they will foul out of that game.
  • Two technical fouls on a player or coach will result in automatic ejection from the game.
  • The ejected player must also leave the playing area.
  • Teams will enter the bonus (one and one) on the 7th team foul.
  • On a team’s 10th foul, all fouls will result in two free throws.
  • Any player fouled on a 3-point attempt who does not make the basket will be allowed to shoot three free throws.
  • Slapping the backboard is not a technical foul in itself, but intentionally hitting the backboard hard enough to alter the flight of the ball will result in a technical foul.
  • Referees must inform the scorekeeper of the player’s jersey number whenever a foul is committed, so it can be properly recorded
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.
  • The following behaviors will result in a technical foul and the possibility of a game suspension:
    • Cursing at the officials, supervisors, or opposing players.
    • Insulting the officials, supervisors, or opposing players.
    • Participating in a fight - this will result in an immediate disqualification.
    • Other unsportsmanlike acts will also earn a technical foul.
    • All unsportsmanlike fouls will result in two free throws and possession of the ball, regardless of whether the foul is on a player or the bench.
  • Each team has two 30-second timeouts for each game.
  • Substitutes must be reported to the score table and beckoned in by the officials.
  • Illegal substitutions will result in a technical foul.
