Test your recitation of the Qur’an in Arabic according to Tajweed (rules of recitation). Unlike Memorization, this competition focuses on proper recitation and Tajweed rules.
Format

Registration Guidelines

This is a gender-segregated competition.
- Brothers’ Qur’an Recitation
- Sisters’ Qur’an Recitation

Each team may have a maximum of two (2) brothers and two (2) sisters.
Procedure
Section titled “Procedure”-
There are no levels for this competition - the entirety of the Qur’an is testable material.

Judges will tell the competitor where to start and where to stop the recitation.

Judging based on three separate passages from any part of the Qur’an.

The focus is Qur’an recitation and Tajweed, NOT memorization.

Competitors will recite 3 passages live during their interview.

Each passage will be about 10 verses long.

Students must bring their own Qur’an for the competition.
- Annotations NOT permitted: highlighting, underlining, post-its, writing in margins
- Color-coded Qur’ans with Tajweed rules listed are NOT permitted

The interview will include:
- Recitation of up to 3 passages
- Scoring on pronunciation (Tajweed) during recitation
- Testing on basic Tajweed rules for final 10 points
- Expectation to identify rules (place of articulation, qualities of letters, nasal sounds, types of madd, etc.)

Competitors will NOT be expected to have extensive knowledge on the laws of Tajweed.
Mistake Categories

| Heavy vs. Light | Overlooking rules of tafkheem and tarqeeq when reciting Allah’s name and letter Raa |
| Ghunnah | Not adhering to rules of izhaar, idghaam, iqlaab, ikhfaa in their respective places |
| Incorrect Makhraj or Sifat | Not pronouncing letters from correct place of articulation and respective qualities (qalqala, etc.) |
| Prolongation | Not prolonging/stretching a letter when madd is present |
Major Mistakes

| Omission | Leaving off letters from words or leaving out entire words |
| Replacement | Replacing a letter for another or replacing entire words |
| Change Harakah | Changing fat’ha, dhamma, or kasra |
