Format

Submission Requirements

On-Site:
- Three (3) copies of the Nasheed/Rap lyrics submitted to judges at time of competition
Registration Guidelines
Section titled “Registration Guidelines”- A minimum of one (1) and a maximum of six (6) people can register.
- One submission per MIST team/school.
- There will be separate competitions for brothers and sisters.
- Each team must be either all sisters or all brothers.
Procedure
Section titled “Procedure”-
Performance should not exceed 5 minutes.
- Points deducted if performance exceeds allotted time.

Nasheed/Rap competition is different from Spoken Word.
- If registered for both, you may NOT use the same piece.

The only permitted instrument is a drum with an open end (daf).
- Full drum kits, floor drums, etc. are NOT allowed.
- Drums will NOT be supplied by MIST - bring your own.
- Vocal percussion (beatboxing) is permitted.
- No digitally enhanced sounds for performance.

Groups must perform in front of an audience.

No repeat performances from previous years.
- All nasheed/raps must be original.

Tones, lyrics, and tunes must NOT be copied from existing artists.
- Copying is grounds for disqualification.

Submit three hard copies of Nasheed lyrics to judges before performing.

Judging based on official MIST Nasheed/Rap Ballot.
Interview Questions
Section titled “Interview Questions”Judges will ask:
- How did you aim to convey this year’s theme in your work?
- What do you hope to teach people about the theme with your submission?
- What element of the work is the most important towards conveying your understanding of the theme?
