Format
Section titled “Format”In-Person
Submission Requirements

- Photography Portfolio (3-5 photographs)
- Written artist statement (500 words maximum)

Registration Guidelines
Section titled “Registration Guidelines”- No more than four (4) students from each school can register.
- This competition is NOT a team effort. Each competitor must turn in separate work.
Procedure
Section titled “Procedure”-
All artwork must be labeled with MIST ID ONLY.
- Competitor name must not appear anywhere.

Submit 3-5 photographs with a coherent theme or style to showcase your skill.

Pictures must reflect on this year’s theme and can be of any inanimate OR animate object.

All work must be the competitor’s own from beginning to end, including taking the pictures.

Pictures must be taken exclusively for this competition (no previous years).

Photographs may NOT be digitally modified beyond standard optimization:
- Dust removal
- Cropping
- Minor exposure, color, and contrast adjustments

Each participant interviewed for 5 minutes to describe purpose and inspiration.

If more than 15 entries, only the top 15 (based on artwork and written statement) will be interviewed.
- Open gallery preliminary judging round first.
- Top 15 get 5-minute interview with Judges’ Panel.

Include a written statement (500 words max.) explaining your artwork, inspiration, and answers to interview questions.

Competitors judged according to the Photography Competition Ballot.
Checklist

Section titled “Interview Questions”Judges will ask:
- How did you aim to convey this year’s theme in your work? In what ways does your artwork represent your individual point of view, imagination, creativity, and individuality?
- Explain your purpose in developing this artwork and describe how you achieved that goal. Describe any influences from art history, artists, or art periods or styles.
- What elements or principles of art did you use, and how did you select and organize the visual aspects of this work?
