Create digital artwork that showcases your creativity and reflects this year’s theme using computer-generated techniques.

In-Person (presentation/interview)

Submit 2 weeks before the Regional Tournament via MyMIST:

  • Artwork (JPG, TIFF, or PNG format)
  • Written artist statement (500 words maximum)
  • A minimum of 2 drafts of artwork process

On-Site Requirements: None

  1. No more than four (4) students from each school can register.
  2. This competition is NOT a team effort. Each competitor must turn in separate work.
  1. All artwork must be labeled with MIST ID ONLY.

    • Points will be deducted if competitor name appears anywhere.
  2. Artwork must reflect on this year’s theme.

  3. Artwork should avoid realistic, representational rendering of lifelike human or animal form.

  4. AI Generators are NOT permitted.

    • Includes: Dall-E 2, MidJourney, Nightcafe, Deep Dream, Stable Diffusion
    • Usage is grounds for elimination.
  5. Competitors should ONLY use computers to generate artwork.

    • Hand-created artwork will not be considered.
  6. Artwork should not be animated.

  7. Include a written statement (500 words max.) explaining what the artwork is about and your inspiration.

  8. Each interview is 5 minutes maximum.

  9. If more than 15 entries, only the top 15 (based on artwork and written statement) will be interviewed.

    • Open gallery preliminary judging round first.
    • Top 15 get 5-minute interview with Judges’ Panel.
  10. Competitors will be judged according to the Digital Art Competition Ballot.

Judges will ask:

  1. How did you aim to convey this year’s theme in your work? In what ways does your artwork represent your individual point of view, imagination, creativity, and individuality?
  2. Explain your purpose in developing this artwork and describe how you achieved that goal. Describe any influences from art history, artists, or art periods or styles.
  3. What elements or principles of art did you use, and how did you select and organize the visual aspects of this work?
